Back in October, I finally got the chance to adventure into our nation’s gorgeous capital city for a sunrise Washington, DC engagement session, and I couldn’t have met a better couple to spend that morning with. We spent the first part morning watching the sun rise behind the Washington Memorial, casting gorgeous, golden reflections on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Samantha and Jon shared some quiet moments – much quieter than I expected at a sunrise Washington, DC engagement session – cuddled on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before they got to do a little dancing amidst that morning glow. (Wait until you see their shadows dancing along the memorial walls. They’re my FAVORITE!)
Once we left the Lincoln Memorial, we took a walk along the reflecting pool, catching a few twirls and stolen kisses among the changing trees, walked to view the Memorial Bridge, and shortly after took advantage of the nooks of the World War II Memorial. I adored the grand pillars and bronze wreaths of the World War II Memorial, and honestly, the light reflecting off the stone and the memorial’s gorgeous fountain was absolutely perfect!
Once we finished up, we drove out to shoot at Copperwood Tavern in Arlington, Virginia, where Samantha and Jon had their first date. The Copperwood Tavern location in Arlington was absolutely adorable – the entire street was lined with beautiful little storefronts and coffee shops. We stopped to have some coffee and a little breakfast while we waited on Copperwood Tavern to open its doors, and I got to spend some quality time getting to know the two of them. I adored their energy and their appreciation for each other. Both of them had different plans when they met – Samantha was going back to school to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Jon was planning on moving to a new city. Samantha and Jon met online around Thanksgiving of 2016, and while the two of them experienced having parents with cancer at the same time, they supported each other through the toughest of days. Samantha gushed about how much Jon has been her rock, about his strength and supportiveness, and about how he makes it incredibly easy to love him and be in a relationship through it all. Samantha had always joked about marrying the man who would bring her coffee at work, and while taking on extra hours to help deliver a close friend’s baby, Jon surprised Samantha with dinner and coffee at work. Little did she know, nearly a year after meeting, coffee in hand, that he’d propose to her.
I’m so excited to share these two wonderful people with you, and I’m even more excited to be seeing them again TOMORROW to capture them caught up in each other on their wedding day at the stunning Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards in North Garden, Virginia! So until you see them again, you get to enjoy their sunrise Washington, DC engagement session!
