Back in June 2016, just before Michael’s deployment, I spent the evening photographing their gorgeous Christopher Newport University and Cousiac Manor engagement session. And guys, I’m so excited!! Today, these two get to start their forever together!!!
Michael and Mallory are truly something special. The teacher and her American soldier. Mallory is an elementary school teacher in the Hampton Roads area, and Michael is currently serving our country in the United States Navy. Meeting Michael and Mallory just before Michael’s deployment was quite the bittersweet experience, you guys. In many of the photos at Cousiac Manor really capture just how much the two of them didn’t want to part. Watching the two of them cuddle, wrapped up in each others’ arms, never wanting to let go was not only beautiful, but it also made my heart ache. As many of you know, I grew up in a military family, watching my father leave for months at a time, but I’ve watched many friends and my sisters have to say goodbye to their loves over the course of my adult life. It’s a sacrifice that leaves me in tears but also one that leaves me beyond grateful.
Over the course of his deployment, I watched Mallory share themed care packages she sent Michael and messages reminiscent of homesickness. Michael is her home. With every sentiment shared with her friends and family, Mallory used their engagement photos to count down the days until they were together again, and that is something I’ll never forget. Photographs capture life’s great stories. They capture humanity and emotion and life, and to know that the ones I create for others become such important tokens…gah! I can’t even begin to tell you what that feels like to me.
So, you guys, send up a little extra love for Michael and Mallory today…because in just a few short hours, I’ll be back at Cousiac Manor watching forever begin for them.
