When I think about a Blue Ridge Mountains wedding, I think about the incredible view of Cahas Mountain at the insanely beautiful Sundara wedding venue in Boone’s Mill. There’s something about Sundara that makes you instantly go, “I want to get married here.” (I’ve been married for 12 years this month and I literally say this every time I step foot on this gorgeous property.) This venue’s property is sprinkled with all the flowers you think of when it comes to a Virginia spring, grand magnolia trees, and a creek lined by airy weeping willows. But when you step into the light out back and look ahead, Cahas Mountain takes your breath away. So, when Brian and Heather came to me and said they’d be having a Sundara wedding, my heart sang. Their ceremony space seated guests in a spot where, as they watched the two of them exchange vows, the glow of the sun on the mountains was what they saw behind Brian and Heather. It’s the stuff dreams are made of, you guys. Truly.
And their vendor team? PERFECT. These are the people I love working with when I am home shooting in the Roanoke area. (So, if you’re looking to have a Blue Ridge Mountains wedding, have a Sundara wedding with all of these amazing wedding professionals. I highly recommend them!)
Brian and Heather are the types of people you capture and in a blink of an eye, you go, “Wait! It’s been 10 hours already!?!?” I finally got to meet Brian and Heather in April of this year, just one month before their wedding, and they’re the couple you can sit and have coffee with for hours. Their laughter is contagious, and they feel like instant friends. Like you’ve known them for years. When it came to their wedding day, that “these are my kind of people” feeling was solid. Heather bought Brian a record player for their day, which greeted him and his groomsmen with the music of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon. Brian framed the vows he wrote out for Heather and created a shadowbox with a scene foreshadowing their wedding day using beads, rocks, and a stick that Heather says she found and thought Brian was using to make her a slingshot. (Wait until you see how beautiful it is!)
Their day was filled with plenty of laughter, tears of gratitude and love, and a (very) full dance floor. Their details were impeccably them, too. A beautiful – naturally – Fresh Baked cake topped with the chairs from the Pixar movie “Up”, a white globe guestbook, luggage tags for their guests, and stunning florals done by Cara Cait Creative. Brian’s ring was engraved with “Our Greatest Adventure” and the two of them are spending their honeymoon in Australia. All the little adventurous details were certainly a perfect nod to their love for travel.
The best part of the day? Watching the storm clouds come rolling in as their ceremony started…only to part around the mountain and never rain down on them. It was quite literally the perfect springtime Blue Ridge Mountains wedding.
Brian and Heather, whenever you’re in town, I call dibs on time with you. I adored being able to capture such an incredible day – I’ve never felt a wedding day go by so fast! All the laughter and tears and love made my heart so incredibly happy. I’m wishing you both many MANY years of adventure and blessings, and thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your day.
